Walt Hammond is the lead scientist at Dole, the world’s largest producer of the rare blue raspberry. He released a tweet this morning warning that this winter may have significantly damaged perennial crops of blue raspberries at their Hawaii farms.

The blue raspberry is the rarest berry in existence. That and it can only be grown in the volcanic soils of Hawaii, therefore making the cost of importing the fruit even higher. This is the reason why you only get a few blue raspberry Jolly Ranchers or gummi worms in a bag of mostly lemon and orange flavors.
